Young Soldier

He kisses his wife and newborn baby goodbye. She stands by the terminal waving goodbye. She smiles though tears flow down her face. He waves back once more before turning his back on his family and boarding the plane. The wife carries the baby to the window to watch the plane take off as she counts the number of days until his return.
He gets comfortable in his seat in coach for the journey ahead is long. He takes a glass of water the flight attendant offered and stares out the window. Thoughts of his wife and beautiful newborn baby fill his head. He smiles and whispers a quiet thank you to God for giving him such a blessing. Then a sudden pain filled his chest as he realized he was leaving this blessing. Reashuring himself that he will be back soon he slips into a comforting sleep.
The peircing sound of gunfire fills the air. The man looks around in shock. His friends are standing on either side of him firing their weapons at the sand dune up ahead. Instinctivly he follows suit and begins to partake in this war.
All around him people begin to fall. His friends, one by one, fall to the ground. The man began to panic. He through every granade he had at the sand dune and ran over to his friends to see if he could help any of them. Planes and helicopters flew overhead firing at the sand dune. He recognised them and knew they were there to help. He started screaming out to them and waving his arms for them to come down and rescue him and his friends. As soon as he did this bullets from the sand dune flew around him. He ducked down and watched the helicopter nearing him.
A sensation of joy filled his heart as he knew he was about to be taken away from this horrible place. Then a loud noise came from the sand dunes and the helicopter above burst into flames. The man began to scream once more. He covered his face from the falling debris. He looked all around him as everything seemed to be falling apart. The image of his wife and newborn filled his head and then faded away.
The man awoke in a cold sweat. His heart was pounding and his breathing heavy.
"You ok son?" the man next to him on the plane asked. He looked at him and then looked around. He was still on the plane. It was just a dream. He finally began to calm down.
"Uh, yeah. Just had a bad dream." he replied. He began telling himself that over and over. It was just a bad dream. He began to think of his wife and baby and wondered if he would ever see them again. He shook that thought out of his head as soon as it entered. Of course he would see them again, he was trained well and knew what he was doing.
The plane began to decend as the flight attendant said "Welcome to Baghdad."
